Using colour and pattern

This man.

Kaffe Fassett.
A visionary in the use of colour and pattern.
He is an internationally acclaimed textile and fine artist and we attended an evening with him recently where he talked about his life and work.
Thanks Viv.
He has always been inspired by flowers and many of his fabric designs reflect this passion.

This is me getting my "Kaffe" on in my little garden shop....
Shades of purples, blues and darkest lavender.

Colour and pattern in flowers....... I play with these every day.

And now that the summer flowers are starting to wind down,
I'm starting to delve into the " picking flowers "of native blooms.
These library books are crammed with inspiration.

Can't help myself. Always wanting one of everything! Thank goodness we've got room to grow here or I'd be struggling to choose my must-haves.
Twelve little native tubes to get started.

All frost or cold tolerant and can be used as cut flowers.
Many of them new to me and I can't wait to see them flower.

Helen and Amy picked some leucadendrons to take back with them.

Although not truly native, they are looking amazing right now especially in the original patch. Some new ones I planted in the Ruby Garden have turned up their toes. Probably didn't give them enough water.
Come to think of it, if we don't get some rain soon the whole place will be turning it's toes up.
The frog pond has looked like this for a few weeks now.

That's not going to stop me dreaming about some new flowers to try.
Billy Buttons ( a dismal failure last year) and Blue Lace flower, sweet peas and chocolate Queen Anne's Lace.

Sedum Autumn Joy is a standout at this time of the year.

And the fig tree has given us these beautiful orbs of purple.

Pickled zucchini made by Helen.

And her first sour dough loaf after spending more than a week raising and feeding her sourdough culture every twelve hours.
That's commitment for you.

Darling babes....

Colour and pattern in quilting.......
I play with fabric every other day.

It takes me ages to settle upon a backing fabric for my quilts that does justice to the front and looks strong and "right".
But I have made a start with these " shoved in the back of the cupboard" quilt tops. Now to decide on the quilting process and then the binding.

Beautiful brights and patterns.
They would never get eaten here......just looked at!

These make me smile.....

Hope you are looking forward to a great long weekend everyone.
Hope you stumble upon some colour or pattern somewhere out there.
You'll be amazed at what you find when you start noticing.
