Disaster averted

It feels good to have averted impending doom.

An afternoon of cutting back in the garden yesterday produced four barrow loads of cuttings to be plonked up in the mulching pile.
The last of these said loads unknowingly contained a baby bird and nest which was subsequently added to the pile ready for its turn to go through the mulcher. It was a baby New Holland honeyeater.
Thank goodness I spotted it and Farmer Bill was able to return it safely to its little sibling and parents. I'd somehow gathered up the little cup shaped nest too, but it appears as though they were both out of the nest anyway. I had been wondering why the honeyeaters were flitting around me out there. They didn't seem to be alarmed. I thought they were just being friendly.
Only one remaining plant left to be chopped back in that bed but it will need to stay now until  those babies are up and gone.
I've even added some more protection. The rest of the cottage bed has been thoroughly razed to the ground.

We were very glad to see them both still there this morning.
Spot the babies.

Around the garden path.....

Our resident orchardist has been around to inspect our apple trees and spray accordingly for leaf curl and brown spot. He returns in a couple of weeks to repeat the process. Thanks Jamesy.

Sew and sew
Some new heat packs and eye pillows for Jacqui's shop.

Scrappy Trip Around the World blocks rescued from the back of the sewing cupboard ready to be sewn together. Another project from a couple of years ago needing to be finished.

Eight blocks of Honeysweet completed now. Eight to go.

A morning at the Craft and Quilt show on Thursday with Jo was cause for great excitement. We both came away very inspired and happy with our purchases. I for one, could do with another quilt project.
This is called the Hummingbird Quilt by Monica Poole and this was her sample at the show.
It's a quilt-as-you-go quilt and has a very simple design.
I've started sorting darks and lights from my purchased jelly roll. I'll make up the rest from my stash.
Not game to look at it any more in case I start it.

Kidlets and babies.

Posted to Olive today.......see the resemblance???

Amy and Helen celebrated their engagement at the weekend.
They met just over a year ago and became engaged recently.
There was a heavily forecast weather event on Saturday but that didn't stop the celebrations.

Too much yapping and all forgot about taking photos except Aunty Sue. Thanks Sue.

And then there were three on the couch......taken yesterday just before bedtime.
Love them to bits.

Have a great week everyone. Spring is in the air and I'm about to order some seeds for summer flowers. All new to me and I can't wait.
