July

It's July and the birds are busy.
Bill got to snap this beautiful little pardalote perched in the bare branches of the apple tree. I think this one is the female.

We've had some very icy mornings.
Even the dam froze over.

Winter in the garden.
Amazing what continues to flower in spite of the cold. These were picked before two heavy frosts.

Speaking of Winter.......
Bill, Jo and I visited the "Van Gogh and the Seasons "exhibition at NGV during the week. It prompted me to do some research into his life and work. He was among the most famous of the Dutch painters and yet his suicide at 37 years of age meant that he never got to realise that fame. Such a sad life story full of suffering and mental anguish.
This self portrait on display is one of more than 43 self portraits.

I liked this painting.
It was simply called " Tree trunks in the Grass". I love tree trunks.
This is from the National Galkery site....my photo was a blur.

One of my favourite anecdotes was the Portrait of Dr Felix Ray story.
He was the young doctor who treated Van Gogh after his ear was severed. Apparently the doctor wasn't particularly fond of the painting and used it to repair a chicken coop and then gave it away. It is now in a museum in Russia and is reported to be worth over 50 million dollars.

Sew and Sew
A jelly roll retrieval from the back of the sewing cupboard called Butterscotch and Rose. I've forgotten how long it's been there. Finding a new life in the form of a quilt.

A charm square pack to make into Winter cushions for the lounge.

Last Sunday's get together.

A trip to Kyneton last weekend and a visit from Kim on her way to Melbourne.
Just a glimpse from the road....

So enticing though.
We were in Perth when Amy and Helen bought their house.
We haven't been inside yet. Can't wait. It has such a lovely outside feel.
A drop in to Squishy Minnie bookshop ( a delightful new children's bookshop in Kyneton) and then off to have coffee and warm up.

These little Pilbara poppets are keeping their Mummy and Daddy on their toes right now.

Bill has rugged up and ventured out to start pruning the roses.
I'm just enjoying the gluggavedur.

Have a great weekend everyone and keep your toes warm.
