Toiling with the tiller

It seemed like the perfect solution.
Pa's tiller.

We had Bill had to dig a long trench running from the tap in the rose garden all the way down to the far end of the horses' paddocks.
Some time ago we thought it might be a good idea to use a huge roll of poly pipe from Dad's shed to supply water to the horse troughs and attach taps to each paddock. This would replace the hoses that are all joined together at present and get dragged all over the place.
All it took was a few yanks on the starting rope, chugging and spluttering and plumes of smoke and the tiller was off with Bill chasing along behind it.
The trenching had begun.

After several trips back to the shed for repairs and multiple adjustments ie broken starting rope, muffler fell off, loose bolts to be tightened, petrol tank movement and a little bit of flame activity (##### ???????), Bill decided he had better give it a rest.
Funnily enough he has decided to have a day off today for repairs and adjustments too!
The trench is done and the poly pipe is in and the fittings have been purchased ( not sure why Bill didn't try locating the fittings in Dad's shed ).

He managed to clear a spot on the workbench though!

He likened it to participating in an archeological dig!

It's been twelve months since Dad passed away.
I think of him every day.

We also celebrated Dennis's birthday.

Dennis crawled under the house....(again) to raise the joists so that the laundry door would close properly.   Amy followed instructions.

And we planted pansy seedlings in the above ground garden bed.
They will provide some pretty colour for Mum to look out on when they are in bloom.

Back at Frog Pond Farm.....
The ground here is  cracked and dry.

Anything that needs planting requires a crowbar to dig the hole.
And we still have a bit more planting to do.
Three more feijoas for the orchard hedge and three Chinese pistachio trees.
I bought fifty Jonquil Geranium bulbs.....

.........and planted them in some cylindrical tin things scavenged from Dad's vegie patch.

Grandpa's Rose is looking beautiful right now. It has the sweetest perfume.

Flynn and Archer

Aunty Amy has been sharing her love of children's literature.
Darling boys.

Another load of hay arrived late this afternoon.
There's water in the dam and these clouds look very promising.
A great start to the weekend.

Mmmmm.......wonder if that works with the tiller too???
Hope everyone gets to unplug over the weekend.

  1. A very funny post Helen. Lots of rain and wind here last night. I hope that the cracks in the ground have softened.
