I'm onto it

Amy and Helen are getting married on January 6 at Frogpond farm.
It was the cheapest venue so they said!
They want lots of flowers.
Surely that can't be too hard.
That's what we do here. We have daffodils, freesias, tulips, roses, liliums and all manner of prettiness in the flower department.
But........it's going to be summer.......and I don't do summer.
That is, until now.
So a summer garden of flowers it is, with a tank full of water ( thank you rain gods ) to keep the grass green.

So many questions rattling around in my head......
What flowers to plant?
When to trim back to encourage new growth?
Do flowers really stay alive in summer?
When to plant seeds so that they're flowering at the right time?
And on and on.
In spite of all the uncertainty, I am actually in my element.
So much to learn about summer gardens and I love it.
In the last couple of weeks I have already dug up, split up, planted, cut back, potted, replanted, watered, fed and relocated and all the while, kept trying to visualise what it might all look like. That's what us gardeners do apparently. We're always dreaming about what it might look like.

Hollyhocks are big on my list.
( photo from internet)

They will be perfect for height and colour.
And I'll just have to jump on top of the leaf-destructing bugs early (not sure how yet).
Cosmos and gypsophila too.

Oh I can see myself summer flower gardening for years to come after this!

We farewelled Joanne a couple of weeks ago on her way to the UK for some family history research and to explore and enjoy everything about the whole of Great Britain as we did.

She has already discovered a number of significant headstones.
We are in awe of the work she has done so far.

Sam, Kiann and the boys are currently in Perth patiently awaiting the arrival of their precious baby girl.

We are flying over there to be with them shortly.
A baby quilt in the making.

The rose is there because I hope she'll love roses as much as me.
I need to get a move on now and get it finished.

Some other sew and sew bits over the last few weeks.
Heat packs and eye pillows for Jacqui's shop.

Around the garden path over the last few weeks.....
Pink Lady apples still looking beautiful today on the tree.

The old copper we found in Dad's shed filled with tulip bulbs.
Dad had cut bits out of the side and Bill trimmed them up before I had a chance to take a photo.

The spectacular reds of autumn.

A creamy coloured dahlia.

Cuttings of cotton lavender ( santolina) that struck. Oh the excitement of seeing those tiny white roots poking out the bottom of the pots.

Still flowering in the cottage garden.

Mmmmm......

Ready to be planted in hanging baskets.

Sweetest little sedums you ever did see.

Have a lovely week everyone and keep warm.
Farmer Bill has brought half the woodpile to the front door in anticipation.

If tonight is anything to go by, we'll be needing every last log.
